Your Eye Doctor in East Rutherford, NJ, for Eyeglasses and Eye Exams

When was the last time you had an eye exam?
Has your vision become progressively worse?
Do you wish you could see clearly again?

We recommend that all patients have an annual eye exam. Your annual eye exam is truly more than a simple vision screening. Eye doctors can often diagnose chronic diseases, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, glaucoma, and diabetes through a typical eye exam.

Many health and eye conditions can be prevented with the right prevention and care. By monitoring your health and scheduling regular eye screenings and vision exams, you will retain the best chance of preserving the most vision possible.

From eye exams to eye screenings and eye injuries to eye infections, your team at William Fruchtman O.D. has you covered.

  • Standard eye chart
  • Eye alignment
  • Functional vision tests
  • Manual refraction with a phoropter
  • Slit lamp exam of the front of the eye

Your New Jersey Optometrist for Diabetic Eye Conditions

William Fruchtman O.D. is your New Jersey specialist for diabetic eye conditions. We can detect and identify damage to the eye that is caused by diabetic retinopathy.

The good news is that diabetic eye conditions can be diagnosed and treated even before your vision is affected. Because these diseases can sometimes take hold while you show no symptoms at all, it’s essential to catch them early. Later symptoms of diabetic vision problems can include blurred vision, vision spots caused by tiny specks of blood, and partial or total blindness.

Your New Jersey Eye Doctor for Eye Screenings and Cataracts

Cataracts are defined as a degenerative eye disease where proteins in the eye band together and affect your vision. The eye lens progressively becomes cloudy and vision becomes progressively blurry until permanent partial or total blindness occurs. Cataracts can appear in one or both eyes.

Some causes of cataracts may include the following:
  • Ultraviolet radiation from sunlight and other sources
  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Obesity
  • Smoking
  • Prolonged use of corticosteroid medications
  • Statin medicines
  • Previous eye injury or inflammation
  • Previous eye surgery
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Substantial alcohol consumption
  • High myopia
  • Family history

Dr. Fruchtman O.D. offers both cataract and Lasik co-management of eye surgery in New Jersey.

Your East Rutherford, NJ, Eye Doctor for Glaucoma

Do you think you have glaucoma?

Glaucoma appears when excess fluid builds up in the eye and creates pressure that damages the optic nerve. Glaucoma can be difficult to diagnose because there are several different forms of glaucoma. Only a thorough and complete eye exam and several assessments can absolutely identify all cases of glaucoma.

Dr. Fruchtman O.D. uses the following modern technologies to monitor macular degeneration and glaucoma:
  • Retinal imaging
  • State-of-the-art visual field analyzer
