WHEN IS IT TIME FOR AN EYE EXAM?

How do you know when it’s time for an eye exam? If you’re getting an eye exam each year, then you’re probably already on a good schedule. But if it’s been a while, you may want to schedule an eye exam as soon as possible. And if you’re experiencing an eye issue, you’ll want to know if you should get it checked right away or if you can wait until your next exam.

First, most people do well with an annual eye exam. This is usually the right frequency to catch any eye health issues early. However, if you are over the age of 50 or if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, then you’ll want to increase the frequency of your eye exams in order to continue to maintain the best vision possible for you.

Conditions That Warrant an Eye Exam Soon

In addition, any of these eye issues will warrant a trip to your optometrist as soon as possible.
  • You can’t remember when you had your last eye exam.
  • If it’s been longer than one year since your last eye exam.
  • You have difficulty seeing while driving at night.
  • You have difficulty seeing and reading street signs from a distance—day or night.
  • You are seeing spots, flashes of light or floaters.
  • Your eyes are red, dry, and/or itchy.
  • You have diabetes or another health condition that affects your eyesight.
  • You have a family history of health conditions, such as diabetes or glaucoma.
  • You experience regular eye strain.
  • You suffer from frequent headaches or migraines.
  • You’ve experience blurred vision after spending extended time at a computer screen.
  • You suffer from motion sickness or dizziness.
  • Your eyes have trouble following a moving target.
  • You have to hold items further from your eyes to read them clearly.
  • You squint or close one eye to read more clearly.
  • You notice any changes in your vision, especially after an incident of head trauma.

If you are experiencing any of these eye problems, please schedule a visit with Dr. Fruchtman right away. We don’t want you to suffer any longer than you have to. And we want to catch any eye problems as early as possible.

But Your Eyesight Is Good…

But what if I’m not suffering from anything like this? What if my eyesight is fine?

While it’s true you may be seeing normal, keep in mind that many eye conditions can have early signs that are not readily apparent to you, or they may show symptoms that seem harmless.

Don’t wait until you are experiencing an eye problem to visit an optometrist. When you take your eye health seriously, then you’re taking the right steps to ensure that you maintain the best vision possible throughout your life.

And don’t forget that your optometrist can diagnose many other health issues, including diabetes and cancer, simply from the condition of your eyes. Your eyes can tell a lot about your health!

Regular eye exams will help you maintain your best vision possible.
Call Dr. Fruchtman when it’s time for your next Eye Exam!
